My smart move into the world of ‘SmartFlyer’

1953-LOGO

Well, as another financial year comes to a close, and I gather up my faded receipts (I know, I really need to get with technology), I want to thank you for once again being a part of my journey, and allowing me to be a part of yours.

As an independent travel ‘stylist’, I don’t take your support for granted. I know that when it comes to booking travel, you have a plethora of choice, so I am honoured that you have chosen me to work with you to make your travel dreams a possibility.

Now, what’s business and pursuing your passion without change? It’s time for a shakeup.

You may have started to notice that some of my personal business branding has switched from Riche Travel to Smartflyer Australia, and I’m about to explain what that change is all about….and it’s exciting!

#throwbackthursday and reflecting on a life well travelled (So far)

It’s #throwbackthursday and we all just loveeeeeeeeeee digging out those old photos and stories, so I figured it was a great opportunity to share a post that I’ve written, where I have spent some time reflecting upon my ideas about bucket lists and my life well travelled, so enjoy!

DO talk to strangers… Especially on a chair lift!!

I’m writing this as I sit here in L.A, enroute to Sydney after yet another journey around the world, and I can’t help but reflect upon some words of wisdom that I have taken away from conversations had with people I’ve met along the way, and to be honest I use the term ‘met’ loosely.

See, I’m talking about those random people that you share a chair lift or gondola with for those 8 to 15 minutes when you’re ripping around a ski field. Strangers, who you no doubt share a common interest with, but otherwise would never have spoken to.

2014 in reflection – Ticking off my Bucket List

About this time last year, I posted about Bucket List’s (check it out: http://mytravelust.com/2013/12/30/is-a-bucket-list-the-new-new-years-resolution/) and how for me, having a list of goals and experiences that I want to achieve helps me to live in the moment and ensure that I’m being true to myself and living the life that I’ve always imagined. A life filled with love, people, places and most importantly new experiences that keep pushing my boundaries, so that I can continue to learn and grow.

Well, as I sit here at 2am on the 1st of January 2015, the year in reflection ended up being pretty darn RAD!

Giving the gift of time and travel this Christmas!

As 2014 draws to a close (and I shake my head in disbelief. It was seriously just January, wasn’t it?) it’s time for me to share my next journey with you.

While this year has already proven to be a pretty great year of travel, with trips to the Cook Islands, China, Bali and the USA already under my belt, my motto (as you know) is work hard, play hard and that life is too short not to live your (travel) dreams, so this time it’s 6 weeks away to explore Dubai and the UK for Christmas and New Year. Then it’s off to the USA and my favourite city, New York, before getting our ski gear out to enjoy 3 weeks of skiing and snowboarding in Jackson Hole & Colorado with my man.

This time, there is also a difference…. the trip isn’t just about us.

Why I love my job….seriously!

career passion

Yep, I said it…. I LOVE MY JOB, and I guess when I think about it, I don’t really even consider it a job. It’s my passion!

While the perception of what a ‘travel agent’ does is very different to the day to day reality (It’s not all free holidays and talking travel hot spots you know), I do love that everyday I get to inspire travel  in others and that I get to turn their holiday ideas into a reality.

Travel Quotes to Inspire!

One of the first rules of blogging (so that you can grow and maintain your audience) is to be frequent with your posts, and to be honest, I’ve been a bad blogger!

Life has been C-R-A-Z-Y busy of late, so i’ve not found the time to write a super inspiring travel post for you this week (or last week for that matter… opps!), so instead I thought a little ‘Travel Quote’ Inspo might do the trick.

Who doesn’t love a good travel quote to inspire them to get out there?

Music … My favourite travel accessory!

Have you ever found yourself in a moment where you’ve heard a song and it’s instantly transported you back to a specific time, place or event?

I had one of these moments the other day, and upon hearing the song it sent me zooming back, to a day in 2001 when I was sat perched on a bench, at the back of a Greek Island ferry. All of a sudden I was sun drenched, brown as a berry, and a slightly naive 21 year old again, out exploring the big wide world of ours.

What was the song? Nelly, ‘ride wit me’. You know the one (Hey, must be the money!)’.

‘eeeeeeeeek’ tragic i know and definitely NOT one of my finest musical moments (I do pride myself on having a decent taste in music), but it DID get me thinking about how music is basically a time machine to past experiences and while you can’t be on holidays all the time, you can attempt to re-live some of those epic moments at the push of a button.

And that’s why MUSIC is my ultimate and must have travel accessory.

5 tips to beat Jetlag (seriously!)

world mapJet Lag. It’s a painful reality for most long-haul travellers, and for us Aussies it’s seemingly unavoidable since the majority of our international destinations are on average over 14hrs in travel time, with often multiple time zones to cross before we reach our destinations. (Yawn! Why haven’t they invented teleportation yet?)

Over the years I’ve definitely had my fair share of Jet lag. I remember sleeping through a whole afternoon and evening in Paris, after laying down for a ‘nap’, only to wake up the next morning. Needless to say, upon realising I’d slept for about 15hrs and missed my 1st night in Paris (1 of only 3), I was gutted! Rookie error or what?

From Bintang Singlets to Birkenstocks…. How to avoid ‘bogan bali’ & find your bliss.

As an Aussie, its around this time annually, when it seems everyone you know is off to Bali. With June to August being peak season, It’s dry, the sun is out and the surf is up, so It’s prime time to visit this stunning Indonesian Island. (Still one of Australia’s favourite playgrounds, with around 700,000 of us heading there annually).

When you mention Bali as a travel destination, you’re often met with mixed responses. People either love it or hate it, and to the haters with your preconceived ideas and memories of the Bali of old, I urge you to give Bali another go…. You never know, you may be surprised!!

4 reasons why coming home from a trip is one of the greatest rewards of travel.

Remember the opening scene in the Hugh Grant film ‘Love actually’? Where they talk about the arrivals hall of Heathrow Terminal being one of the loveliest places to be, since it’s somewhere you rarely see hate… only love? Well, I was recently on the receiving end of an airport pick up, at Sydney Kingsford Smith, International airport, when some friends arrived from the UK for a week of sightseeing in our gorgeous city.

It was an interesting perspective for me, since I’m normally the one on the other side of the gate, but that hour or so in arrivals had my mind and heart in a flutter, as it brought back memories and feelings of the countless times I’ve both departed and arrived at Sydney airport.

Answering the question… ‘Where is your favouite destination?’

They say that there is almost nothing more beautiful than watching someone talk about something they are truly passionate about. Whether it’s a person, a place or what they ate for lunch, their eyes light up, and their hand gestures become animated, they describe every detail in such a way that you can feel their heart sing with the joy that they are able to share it with you.

Talking about travel and sharing my experiences with my family, friends and clients on a daily basis is like that for me. I’m not sure if people can actually hear my heart sing (that would be weird), but I can feel it. Knowing that I’ve have the opportunity to share my passions with someone else truly makes my soul smile.
